Listen server on killing floor works but i have never port forwarded

when i go on killing floor my mates can't host a listen server and they haven't port forwarded but i can and i have never portforwarded before. I would just like to know if its normal or what's happened please

Check your router/modem configuration and see if your computer IP is set for DMZ.
DMZ passes all ports, requests etc. It takes your computer from behind the router/modem firewall.
