I installed windows 8 on a 3TB HDD but it only registers as a 2TB hard drive

Motherboard -Asus Z87 Pro

is UEFI enabled in the BIOS?

you need to boot the windows boot media in UEFI mode. Use the boot menu during start up (I think it is F10)

Here is from Seagate support info, those info is for win7 but you can use for the win8. Support for Disk Drives Beyond 2.2 TB.

You don't.
Download and install the "DiscWizard V13", when you run the program and you can use the full 3TB. Check the youtube I posted.
