Hey guys, I have narrowed down my purch(Mobile graphics) with a i7 processor, 8GB of Ram, and 3 year warranty. Due to the fact this laptop is 12 pounds, I will be using this as a desktop replacement. I will be plugging this into a 24 inch monitor via hdmi when Im at home and when Im on the go, I could use the laptop itself. But, I have found another solution. and that is to purchase a Falcon Northwest Tiki with a 24 inch 144HZ monitor. My configuration will have a GTX 780 (Desktop) 8GB of RAM 1866MHZ. and since this is using dekstop components, will I get better performance than the alienware with dual GTX 780M's? in your opinion, should I buy a laptop and plug it into a monitor at home and use the laptop on the go, or should I just buy a full on desktop and be stationary to that place. Would u guys recommmend windows 7 or 8? and would Dual GTX 780Ms outperform a single DEsktop version of a 780? Thank you guys. I really need help deciding. oh and Im not gonna build a pc, just saying. THese are my 2 options.

Having an m18x myself in Sli you can buy a Tiki Cheaper. I live overseas so the Alienwarranty blows away Falcon Northwest but If I lived in the states I would buy the Tiki if money was an object. The X51 is actually a compelling option of you are comparing those. It is around 500 minimum cheaper then the Tiki if you can be happy with gtx 670 graphics. If you need more go for the Tiki, if you need it to be portable by a haliburton 21 inch carry on. The Tiki and the m18 are too heavy to carry in your hand or your back. With accessories you are looking at 20lbs or more and if you use the Cheap Alienware backpack or similar with no waist support or chest support it will tear into your shoulders ( I took my m18x to Argentina was not fun)
I got myself an Alienware 18" recently. $2000 + tax.

TBH I'm disappointed. If you want to run it on batteries, it offers to switch to the more economical integrated graphics. If you say yes, your resolution drops from 1080p to 1366x768 and the thing becomes useless. If you say no, it keeps using the GTX 660M, it's 1080p, but it will run out of juice before you can even finish watching a movie. I'm guessing a version with dual GTX 780M would last even less.

And the screen is glossy and reflects everything, so you have to be in a dark room.

I'm using it as a second desktop PC, in a den, so it's fine. However, a real $2000 desktop would have been a lot more powerful.
