Graphics card, what should I get?

Hi all. Im looking to upgrade to a non intergrated graphics card on my Desktop. Intel I5 2.8ghz, 6gb ram, currently has intel graphics family. I dont have much experience when it comes to a computer upgrades. I can currently do a, somewhat dual monitor setup via HDMI on a HDTV, so I would like to still be able to do that too, or even dual monitor with a monitor, but not neccessary.I also edit videos, so theres that too. I dont need cutting edge, but I would like something that will play current games easily. I have a Gateway DX4850, if that makes it easier. I can seem to figure out if I have PCI or PCI express. I tried a program called CPU-Z, but the graphic interface is all grayed out, so I have no idea

You have pci express. Your choice of graphics cards is going to be limited by the power supply. I suspect you have a "gateway" 300w unit which is not exactly a killer unit. You could probably get away with most any pci-e card that does not require additional power connections (HD7750 is the best of the lot), but your gaming experience would be limited.

If you really want a decent gaming/editing machine, you will have to upgrade both the power supply to ~500w and get a decent mid range gpu. Total price to do this will be somewhere around 300-400 depending on your gaming threshold for resolution and frames per second.

I would say go for a 550-600 watt PSU (Seasonic brand preferably) and maybe a Radeon HD 7870. That's a top-mid end card which really does put out a lot of power. However, this is all limited by your budget. If you're low budget you'll have to settle for something less or even a 7750 like markwp said. Not that a 7750 is bad by any means, but if you're not able to upgrade your PSU then you really can't get anything faster than that.

I think it is PCIE too, well as mentioned im not looking to latest and greatest. I would like to start out 150-200 now, if thats possible, unless you want to suggest something. I think im really limited by my smallish power supply, however.
