Hey guys, I already have most of the parts for my first gaming rig, but after reading around here I am thinking that I may have been a bit overzealous in my purchasing and that maybe I should slow down and rethink a few of the parts.
Here's what I already have sitting in my living room at the time of writing:
Motherboard
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+
CPU
AMD FX-8120
Video card
EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti (2GB)
Power supply
Corsair CX430 V2 Series 430 Watt
Ram
Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model KHX1333C9D3B1/4G
Hard drive
Western Digital Blue 1TB (7200 RPM, 64MB Cache)
Optical drive
Lite-On Internal DVD Writer
Case
Cooler Master Elite 430 Mid Tower
CPU fan (I heard that the CPU's stock fan was really loud)
ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
Operating system
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack
Here's what I'm thinking I need to do:
I am pretty sure that I need to swap out the power supply, since I just now realized that the wattage is too low for my card, and am thinking of buying the "CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 650W ATX12V v2.31" just for good measure and upgrading potential, but I would appreciate some guidance on this.
Also, I am thinking that I need to swap my windows 7 OS out for something better since I heard some scary things about licensing and hardware-replacing issues. Any suggestions?
And if I can get Newegg to refund my CPU, I'd like to swap it out for a FX 8320 since on This thread they said that it is essentially the same except it's around 10% more powerful at the same price. Any idea if I can get Newegg to refund my unopened CPU that I ordered just a few days ago?
What do you guys think of this, and do you have any other suggestions? Also, any tips for how to get Newegg and Amazon to refund my stuff? (mostly newegg, all I got from Amazon was the OS).
And thanks for helping me with this guys, I'm hoping for my first rig to be a great one! (and only around $800!
