Hey guys. I have a PC with Windows 7 installed. I have a lot of software installed for school (Maya, 3DS Max, Office, Adobe CS and ALOT more!). It'd take me days to figure out what I need to reinstall, etc. I've moved my iTunes library, any files that I've worked with anything else that can be moved to a new drive. But out of 1TB, I still only have about 20GB left. So needless to say, I'm losing space fast. I've used the Windows disk cleanup as well.

I've Googled this and found some things about Clonezilla, Truimgae and so on. What I want to know is, will these programs actually work for what I want to do? Will the Windows installation work properly? Is there an easier way to do this? Is it reliable?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance.

I have used ImageX tool , that comes up with WAIK Win7, and one needs to make an iso and it works from command line and the command line is quite simple, and the compression level is high to.
ISO can be burnt to a DVD or USB. Its a file based backup and it hasn't given me any problem till now. One can perform many function like format, create partition, create backup, system repair etc etc.

I have used Acronis True Image Home many times with no problem .
It creates on image from the selected partition (usually C) and when restoring id deletes the old partition and creates a new one from the image ...

So to test it, can I install the new drive, clone C, shutdown and disconnect the original C, maybe even move the SATA cable of the new drive to where the old one was and start it up?

sure ... just keep in mind that when restoring the image u will get on option to chose what to restore ... if u r restoring the image to a new location ( not it's original partition ) u need to un-check "MFT"(Master File Table) otherwise it will mess up the partitions in the new drive ( All of them not just new C) ... unless the the drive is empty ( Has not been partititoned ) in that case keep it checked
