any suggestions trying to build a budget gaming system

Not in today's games it doesn't (assuming you game at 1080p), but it will in future games. Current games are getting very close to 2GB (Max Payne 3 uses 2030MB when maxed at 1080) so more is preferable. I'm not saying you need 4GB, but more than 2GB is preferable and 3GB isn't an option. I'd get 4GB provided it's not more than maybe 50 over the 2GB price.

Sounds like a plan :) Honestly though the extra memory will likely cost more than 50 extra. I went for a 2GB myself because of the price difference. Just means I'll have to turn down texture resolution in two or three years, which I'm not totally happy about but I can live with it.
