Need some advice before I go and purchase monitors!!! I am running 2 Sapphire 7870 oc Ghz edition in crossifre in one of my spare gaming builds and I would like to hook up 3 monitors. My main gpu has 1 dvi-d, 1 dvi, 1 hdmi, and 1 display port connection. The amd/sapphire website is very vague on which exact configuration is needed to run 3 displays on extended successfully, but it does say that if 3 displays are going to be utilized, one of the monitors has to have a displayport 1.2 connection. My question is, Can I purchase a center/main monitor that has the displayport 1.2, and use 2 side monitors utilizing the dvi-d and dvi ports on the gpu? If not, what configuration do I need to purchase. Would like to get this right on my first shot here. Thanks!!~~Suferbus

The way you stated should work, basically you can only use 2 out of the 3 DVI + HDMI ports. Worst case scenario would be if you cant get both DVI ports to work, then you would simply need an HDMI to DVI cable. The most important thing is that no matter what one of the monitors has to run off displayport. If you dont have a monitor with displayport you can get a displayport to DVI adapter, but make sure its an ACTIVE adapter.

So, say I have 3 monitors, and all three have dvi and hdmi inputs only. I could hook up one monitor as straight HDMI, One monitor as straight Dvi-d, and one as display port as long as i buy an active display port adapter, hook the active displayport adapter to my gpu displayport connection, and and the dvi side of the display port adapter to the 3rd monitors dvi imput?

Thanks for the help. It is hard to find a monitor with a display port input sub 200.00, and with there being so many decent monitors out there in the 120.00-150.00 range, buying the active adapter and using 2 monitors dvi and one active display port to dvi seems to be the best option, and even with the purchase of an active adapter, probably save 75-100 on this set up. I found this adapter made by Sapphire and I think it will work since my gpu's are both Sapphire.
