help i deleted an partition with good data

was wondering what tools are avlable out there to get back a 500 gig partition i deleted. the space is still there in the midsdle of the disk unallocated

Short stroking does nothing but help benchmarks at the expense of loosing space. If you want fast access to the drive put those programs on first. Its that simple.

Since you've already partitioned the 500gb, the procedure is the same except you create just 1 partition thats much smaller than the drive itself. Partitions are created from the outter edge of the platter to the inner so the first partition you make will be the fastest.

Files are written from the most outer edge of the partition to the inner slower part. So if a file is at the outer edge of the partition that is on the outer edge of the platter then short stroking did nothing for you.

If you want only your programs to have fast access then write your 'slower' files (pics, music, movies, documents,...) to a partition at the end of the drive.
