I've been using these forums for answers for a while. However now that it's time for me to build a new rig I feel I can trust this community for some advise.

PURPOSE:

I mainly want this rig as a serious gaming rig but also want to get into overclocking. I currently do not render video and probably won't in any forseeable future. But if I ever do, this beast should be able to handle it.

BUT: above and beyond all this thing has to last BIG time. My previous rig finaly died on me after over 7 jears of loyal service and it had adequate performance till the very end.

PART LIST:

I came up with this as my new system: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1hKow

Cost should be around 2000 euro where I live (Belgium). Again, most of these components were chosen to last and for their quality. I know I probably could get away with something more like a 1000 system for what I'll be doing wit it in the near future. However If anyone can suggest equal parts for lower price they are certainly more than welcome to!

Since this is my first build, I obviously want to run this by you guys just to check if all components match and no missmatches occur in the smaller details (I already managed to chose too high a voltage RAM for the Hasswell architecture).

GPU

The thing I doubted about the most is (are) the graphics card(s). I'm still not sure about that one. Might go with the 780 to leave room for further upgrade down the line.

Pretty good. If you really want to be safe for video editing, you sealed it with the RAM. All I will advise you to do is to get RAM without those huge fins. They block the cooler from being placed. Get the LP version or my personal recommendation, the Crucial Ballistix. Also, get one of the 200$ Gigabyte boards instead of the Sabertooth. They're pretty overpriced for what they do.

I've seen rigs with ventilation installed on top of the ram itself, is that what you're talking about? Or do you just mean it'll be in the way of the CPU cooler? Also if you could explain to me when ventilation of the RAM itself is advised that would be nice.

And yes I was kinda starting to doubt the benefits of the Sabertooth and will be looking into some other mobo's. Gigabyte seems like a good place to start.

I'm saying it'll block the CPU Cooler. Anyway, cooling is very rarely needed for RAM. Most of the time, the case fans should be more than enough.

Allright then. I've been looking around and narrowed down the MB to either: MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING , Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC or Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H. All are around the same 200 price range.

The only "feature" I might want to use is this: The SSD will (mostly) contain programs only. Data will be on 2 x 1TB in raid1. Can any of these boards do this? (I'm not experienced with raid...)
If so the only thing I ask is that it is as sturdy and reliable as possible. Anny suggestions?
