System Usage from Most to Least Important: OTA DVR, NAS for music and movies, surfing the internet

Are you buying a monitor: No

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, Amazon, any reputable parts site

Location: Augusta, Georgia

Parts Preferences: None

Additional Comments: First and foremost I would like to build an HTPC that is capable of OTA DVR from an attic antenna source. Second, I would like to make it a combo NAS capable of storing Blu Ray and DVD movies as well as music. I would like to be able to expand the storage up to 10 Tb.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Hi , if you dont intend to do any gaming at all , you should get a low voltage Haswell i5 Chip with a Z87 Motherboard .

why ? because the new Z87 has onboard 6 Sata 3 with Raid 5 option which will be very handy for your system.

do you have the Tuner Card ?

hi again ,

1- Do you want the Drives to be hot swap ?

2- Do you want the drives accessible from the front without opening the case ?

3- do you want ITX mother board with 1 slot only ? or matx motherboard with 4 slots ?

4-what is the pc size you prefer? compact and small ? or horizontal HTPC case ? or normal mini tower?

5- Does the look matters? are you hiding this PC , or showing it off near the TV ? and do you want Remote Control ? or a Bluetooth keyboard ?
