Samsung 840 Pro 256GB - Not getting maximum speeds

Hello all.

I have attempted to troubleshoot this on my own for over 3 weeks and have not gotten anywhere. I'm really hoping someone can provide me some insight..

I have a not-so-known brand ultrabook (Avatar Mercury Ultrabook http://avatargamingpc.com/laptops-and-tablets/ultrabooks/aviu-145a2.html) that has all Intel based hardware..

I have a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD. This machine is using the Intel HM77 chipset, which says it supports SATA 6 Gbps here:

However.. When running benchmarks with both the Samsung Magician and ATTO benchmarks, it appears as if I'm getting SATA 3Gbps speeds:





Also, this SSD is running in AHCI mode.. The Samsung Magician software even clearly says "Your SSD will not deliver maximum performance because your system does not support a SATA 6 gb/s (SATA3) port."

I guess I'm just flat out confused, the HM77 chipset says it features SATA3, but my SSD is not getting the advertised speed and the included benchmarking software states my machine is not SATA3 capable.

Any ideas here?

I'm going to jump off the deep end here but I think it how they built the laptop that the issue not the Ssd. You may want talk to product engineer or a level three tech support. If reading the setup is right on there vendor web page I think what they did is wired the Sata ports to the slower speed thinking people would put a larger or faster Ssd as a cache drive and wired the faster port to to pci Ssd.

you've answered your own question. you're not getting sataIII speeds because your system only supports sataII.

Jut because the FULL chipset says it supports it, doesn't mean the no-so-well-known-laptop company, didn't use the FULL chip specs. They might have used a different controller chip for the SATA on the motherboard and doesn't use the chipset SATA at all.

Guess that answers my question.. not cool that this machine was advertised with a SATA 3 supported chipset, which it clearly doesn't support.
