Every time I try to transfer a large (11+Gig) AVI from laptop to external hard drive, I get the cyclical redundancy error, but only with that specific file. I've even recaptured it again, and tried the transfer. Same error. Suggestions?
Is the error more likely in the laptop drive (which is pretty glitchy) or the ext. drive?

Solution
Method 1 : CRC error is normally there's a physical damage on the source, in this case is the external HDD. Scan your external HDD for error (right click the HDD -> Properties -> error checking). After finish try to copy again.

Method 2. Try turning off antivirus software and Windows UAC.

Method 3. Try to make the file in .ISO format and than try to copy. http://www.filehippo.com/download_imgburn/

Method 4. Check you RAM sticks. http://www.memtest.org/
