It's the best value out there for a CPU that fast, but most won't see a difference from the ~$330 i7-4770k.

in general i would grab a 4770k
even though 3930k has more processing power with the 6 cores, the 4770k is actually faster in single core performance
i'm sure there aren't going to be many programs that are going to utilize all 6 cores in the near future so the 4770k would be my pick

So for the future and games coming out the 3930k would be the best bet .

i wouldn't waste the cash. it doesn't even out perform a fx8320/8350 in crysis3 by more then a percentage point or two. i would expect crysis3 to be the example of the effectiveness of amd vs intel chips going forward, if it is the roadmap, the advantage of going with a 6 or fewer core intel will be almost completely wiped out by a 8 core amd, and for a LOT less money.

simply put get a basic i5 if you want to dominate any game, get a fx8350 if you are concerned that MOAR CORZ is the wave of the future. Don't waste the cash on an i7, in either the 4 or 6 core version.

Yeah, i5 is the way to go for gaming. Future proofing PCs is a futile task.

Only reason to look at it is for heavy multi-threaded workloads like video encoding and rendering, but you've still got to be doing it for a living or something before I'd consider it worthwhile.
