CPUs temps jumping all over the place

I just installed a Corsair H50 water cooler on my i7. My temps are jumping all over the place under idle. they will drop down to 32 then up to 40, back down to 31. Some cores stay cooler than others. I feel like my temps should at least be down to a steady 31. Do you think I applied the paste wrong?

looks like it, particularly because of the different temps on different cores... you might have applied too much thermal paste or applied it unevenly...

If you are using the i7 3770K you will experience higher temps on the first and last core at times, at least I do. It has a lot to do with the TIM that Intel used on the chips. What are your ambient (room) temperatures like? Are you overclocked? The Corsair H50 is a good cooler but the H100 would probably be better suited for a quad core i7. Some guy de-lid their cpu's and replace the TIM that Intel uses with something better but I'm not that brave to do that to my cpu. How much thermal paste did you use? Try and reapply it doesn't take much to get the job done .

yep.... he can also add a 2nd fan to boost the performance of that h50 (i would suggest he does, the basic h50 is sorta underwhelming)

No more than pea size. Its running at stock right now. I had to reapply a couple of times, but i felt good about this latest application. I will try again tomorrow

I just reapplied thermal paste. I guess I did have too much on. It was all over. I applied less this time (im pretty sure) Im still having those issues, although temps across the board seem to be pretty much the same. I feel like with the h50 running at stock speed my temps should be lower. At idle it still bounces around a bit, from 28-34c, while in prime95 I hit 67 in one of the cores, and while gaming with WoW in ultra im hitting 50c. Doesnt seem right to me. Does this look funky to anyone else too?
