Monitor does not accept noncomputer inputs

I have a Samsung 24" LCD monitor, SyncMaster 2443BW. It runs at 1920x1200 and has a DVI and VGA input. I've had this monitor for years and haven't had any problems with it until now. I use a HDMI to DVI cable to plug it into my desktop normally (gfx card AMD HD5870) as I have no DVI to DVI cable that is more than 1'. This works perfectly. However, if I take the HDMI end out of my computer and plug it into my Xbox, I get nothing. The monitor registers that it is connected yet it has the screen off with the blinking power light, the same way it looks like when the computer idles and turns the screen off. I've tried it with two Xboxes, and my PS3, same result. When I use my old Amp that has HDMI switching (Yamaha RXV565), I get the same result even when it's set to the input coming from the computer. All of these situtations work perfectly if plugged into my TV instead. However, if I press the menu button on the amp, voila, I can see it. Not very helpful still.
The monitor works perfectly fine when plugged into my laptop's HDMI port as well (gfx card NVIDIA GTX 765M).
The weirdest part is this monitor used to work perfectly fine with my Xbox before, I used to do it all the time. One day it just didn't work. I've reset the settings, tried other DVI-HDMI cables, yet no results. I'm worried now because I was planning on using this monitor as my main display for Xbox and TV when I go to university in September, and really don't want to buy a new one.
If anyone can help me out here it would be greatly appreciated!

I've run into this problem with various 16:10 displays over the years and after countless googles on different displays, it seems that the lack of 1:1 pixel mappings/scaling chips on both the the 360 and ps3 results in a black screen using DVI/HDMI at not native resolutions I have had a 360 render a skewed image using a VGA cable on two separate occasions but I do not know if it would work on the PS3... Maybe grab a 3-in-1 cable from a retailer that will take a return without busting your balls.

That kind of makes sense, it's just so weird though since I literally used to use the same Xbox, monitor, even cable and it worked fine. It was only a couple months ago that anything changed and I don't believe theres been many patches. I'll try resetting the xbox's display settings.

Actually that did the trick, resetting the Xbox video settings by holding down Y and RT while it's starting up. My guess is the Xbox was still trying to force through a 1080p signal, which the monitor cannot accept. I cannot send it through the amp properly still, it works but the max resolution I can set is 1280x1024. Doesn't seem to be a way to fix that. My computer doesn't work through the amp I'm guessing because its set at 1920x1200 which is too high for the amp.
Irritating but I'll make do until I can get an actual 1080p monitor.
