I am building a computer for the first time for my cousin. Basically the only game that he really wants to play is Minecraft, and he'll probably be doing some internet surfing/ homework so I just went with an APU.

Question: Since this computer is only for light gaming and internet surfing/homework is a 1366x768 monitor good? Everyone makes it seem like 1080 is the only way to go these days so i'm confused. I left the monitor up to you helpful and smart people :)

P.S. I can't get the the reddit markup thing to look neat without all the URL's all over the place...I'm a forum noob sorry :p

Solution
That's a nice budget pc. I would go for a better case though. Maybe the Corsair 200R, Zalman Z5 Plus or the NZXT Source 210 ELITE?
IMHO, 1080p is the most standard way to go right now and it's not much more expensive over 1366x768 (maybe like $30 more).

i'm i seeing right that you have no gpu!? if so that would be my only issue, the other parts are fine, but if you're gaming than you really should have a gpu.

APU means that there is a GPU built into the CPU, maknig it a APU
Also if you need a great case for cheap: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811322054&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Great case only $35, I got it a few days ago for my new build. I love it! Only thing is if your power supply does not have a male molex power plug you have to buy an adapter for the front fan. Other than that its amazing!

true, but an apu is still no substitute for a gpu, even a cheaper one. amd has a listing of gpu's that pair well and are fairly cheap.

Thats not what the guy before you said at all.... And also if you would have read all this guy needs is an APU, his cousin is just playing minecraft.

This is a much better build for the same price. The 7770 just kills the GPU inside the AMD A10 5800K, so definitely go for this build. It is a beast when compared to the APU build. Also the processor is also as powerful as the AMD A10 5800K because the processor is nothing but the AMD A10 5800K without integrated graphics, so definitely go for this build. It is really a beast for that price.

I like this build, the only thing is he is a kid, and he wants a case a bit more visually appealing, I just cant find a decent one that looks cool also. Also, if I add in the Phenom II would that be even better? Is this a decent case? Its on sale

Cheap, cool looking case only $35, I have it and use it so it is a good case

Go for any case you like, but if you like it then go for this case. It is a good case with good cabla management and other stuff and it also looks cool (though that is personal opinion). Check out this case :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811553013&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

It looks sleek, for a grown person. For a kid I would imagine he wants more colors and LED fans and stuff which is why I reccomended the case I did http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811322054&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
