Background:
I am running an i3-2120 3.3 GHz on MSI H61-P33 with Apacer 4GB-10600 RAM. No graphics card.

My sister has an HP laptop with 2.2 GHz i3 and 4 GB RAM (don't know the make). No graphics card.

I was surprised when her laptop out performed my pc when playing Far Cry 2. Her laptop can run better graphics settings than mine. Also better at NFS MW.

So this month I decide to buy a graphics card for my pc.

I have three choices (that I can afford)
One: Gigabyte GT640 2GB DDR3 with Kingston 8GB PC3-1600 (throw out the Apacer)

Two: Gigabyte GT640 2Gb DDR3 with Kingston 4GB PC3-1600 (keep the Apacer)

Three: MSI GTX650 Ti Boost 2GB DDR5 with out additional RAM.

Which option will give me the best gaming performance?

Thanks for the advice!

Solution

3, no question asked... it won't even be close. the 650ti BOOST is almost 3 times the gpu the 640 is. and you don't need 8gb of ram, so i wouldn't worry about your ram today. get the best gpu you can and enjoy the ride.

btw: the reason why your sister can game better is resolution size. she's playing on a tiny monitor at very low resolutions.

Thanks.
What I normally do is stop Explorer, Themes and AVG. But I have to turn off shadows and fullscreen. just to play at a decent frame rate.
But thanks for the advice. I was originally planing on Corsair Vengeance Pro but I realize the RAM is not going to help me much. I will then go for the GTX650.
