I currently have two XFX 2GB 6950s crossfired but I'm not so sure about them. I've had them for about two and a half years and I'd like to upgrade to a better card as these cards are extremely loud and don't seem to be offering a lot of performance anymore. So my question is, what card should I upgrade to or should I even upgrade at all?

Edit: Forgot to mention my mobo is the Asus P8Z68-V LX so I only have PCI-E 2.0

well forget about crossfire, it has been proven that although you get more frames per second with it, in many situations the output of these frames at the monitor is not evenly spaced, some get dropped, partially displayed, so perceivable frame rate is not much different to a single card. 7950/7970, gtx770/670/680 would all be noticeable upgrades from what you have.

Arma 3 and even Arma 2: OA have troubles running anything at even high. Most newer games play choppy.

Have you checked that your crossfire is working probably and all that stuff.. Maybe even update your BIOS. Seems weird that you have choppy gameplay with Arma 2.. and even 3.. Unless you of course max eveything possible in the game.

Sorry just realised this has nothing to do with your original question :D

I use 1 6950 most of the time. I can play with high/very high/ultra settings in most games. there has to be something else going on.

I read your opener again. one of my 6950's is an XFX brand. I pulled it apart the other day. It's a very cheap heatsink with very few cooling fins and nothing to pull heat from the memory. as a matter of fact the memory chips are insulated from the heatsink with clear plastic that is adhered to the bottom of the heatsink.

try turning up the fan speeds manually to 50% and see what happens. I would also try running just 1 card.
