Port forwardind; NetGear WNDR3700

I've been trying to portforward for the past few hours now, and I can not get anything to open up.
I used multiple programs and websites to check the port to see if it is open and it will not open. I also tried other ports and none of them will open either.
I have the router I named above and an Arris modem.

Can anyone here help me?

I have the exact same modem as you :D

Anyways - have you tried this?: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/DGND3700/

Also, what game are you playing? Then I can help you more.

Sorry I didn't add that. I did open them up on my firewall. And this isn't specifically for any game, as that wouldn't matter. I can not open up any ports at all. I am not checking with any games, but I used some port checking websites as well as the portforward.com port checker.
I asked my programming teacher and he told me to look into adding either my computer or router into the DMZ. No idea what that is yet, but Ill look into it...
