Hi guys, I've got a Corsair CX500 power supply that was fine originally, before I got my graphics card, however after adding a GTX 760 the PSU started making this squeaking noise. It was fairly noticeable at first, but after the first few hours it seemed to go away, and now it only makes the noise occasionally and when it does it's not noticeable unless I get my ear pretty close to the case.

Is this something I should be worried about? Or can I just ignore it if it's not bothersome?

Here's my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Jack1982/saved/1lZx

I think the problem you have is coil whine. It is a common thing in PSU's however there have been reports of coil whine in GPU's. Are you sure that it is your PSU, it could possibly be your GPU as you say that it was "fine originally".

I didn't think about coil whine, I assumed the noise must be coming from a fan, and I stuck my finger in each fan on the GPU and the noise remained the same. That makes sense now that you mention it though. I've never heard coil whine before as this is my first PC build.

I'll have to take a closer listen with the case opened up and see if I can identify the source a little better. But as long as it's nothing to worry about, that puts my mind at ease. Thanks!
