New RAM not supported by current BIOS...

I have had a problem of not being able to get any display or POST when I power on my system. I've boiled it down to the fact that my RAM is of a new build that, per Kingston, will require a BIOS update before the mobo will recognize it.

So, I need to update my BIOS to get a display, but I need a display to update my BIOS. Fun stuff.

I currently have 2x4Gb of Kingston's HyperX Genesis 1600 MHz ram of the new build. Kingston said they can exchange it for the previous build that would be compatible without a BIOS update.

Now, my question is this: Can I just order 2x4Gb of the Kingston HyperX Genesis RAM of the previous build and, once I get the system running and the bios updated, will all 16Gb of ram work together? It's all Kingston HyperX Genesis RAM, but 2 sticks just have a slightly newer physical architecture. Other than that they run at the same speeds and are all 4Gb per stick.

And if you're wondering I've already replace the motherboard once thinking that was the problem, but I've tested all the other parts individually and they all work just fine, including the GPU. Below is my build:

ASUS M5A97 mobo
AMD Phenom II x4 965
600W Cooler Master xTreme PSU
Samsung 840 Series 120Gb SSD
WD Caviar Blue 1Tb HDD
2x4Gb Kingston HyperX Genesis RAM
XFX 7870 HD Double-Dissipation GPU

Thank you in advance! This community is always very helpful and, this being my first custom build ever, I've learned a TON from you guys. You're awesome!

No, if you can't boot the system, I'd swap the one you have for the older model and if you want more RAM, get the same type.
If Kington will exchange it, and you want more of the same RAM, I'd just get the other RAM of the same older type. RAM is pretty good with working together, especially in a good motherboard, but if there are issues with the RAM you have now working, there is no need to take chances. Get the older RAM type since they are willing to send it to you.

So you don't think I should keep the RAM I have and order the older architecture RAM from Kingston? I figure I can boot and update the BIOS with the older architecture, and once that's done re-install the newer architecture RAM and have 16G.

Mixing sticks from different packages is NEVER a good idea, tolerances in DDR3 are so tight, that's why DRAM is offered in verious amounts and number of sticks, to let people get the full amount they want/need in a set that has been tested to work together

I understand that. I guess I was just thinking that it wouldn't be an issue because all 4 sticks are Kingston HyperX Genesis RAM, it's just 2 are a slightly newer build than the other 2.
