Laptop won't boot Windows OS (motherboard damage), but still turns on. How to recover lost data?

Hey,

So, recently my laptop had some sort of damage occur to its motherboard (I think), so Windows OS won't boot up. The computer still turns on.

The problem is I had a lot of data and stuff on that laptop's harddrive. Is there anyway I can extract the lost files, etc., from it? Anything I can buy that can recover the files?

-Thanks!

you can take the hdd out and put it in a external enclosure and connect it to another computer.

Wait, so... I take out the HDD, and I connect the external hardrive to the HDD? Could you explain more in depth please.
edit: nvm I think I figured it out.
