So, i'm about to build a new desktop computer, and wanted to know which of these would work better.

The motherboard I'm getting has 4 memory slots, so if I get the 4 x 4GB, I wont be able to upgrade in the future, and since I'm going to be doing a lot of video editing, being able to upgrade might be a smart idea.

However, I wanted to know if getting 2 x 8GB of RAM will run slower than 4 x 4GB of RAM, and if it does, by how much?

Here is my build so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1hQhi

Get 2 x 8GB. The only advantage you would have with getting 4 x 4GB is quad channel configuration. However, Quad-channel only works with the X79 Chipset, so there would be no performance increase. Z87 only supports dual channel, so 2 x 8GB will be just as fast as 4 x 4GB
