FSX Gaming Build

Solution
It's great that you're OK with overclocking, thanks. As for the GTX 760's shown in the article ... actually, I don't like any of them. I prefer this EVGA SuperClocked model - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130934 - because it exhausts ALL of it's heat out the rear of the case, which I think is extremely important when you're trying to keep an air cooled OC'd CPU chilly. The last thing you need is a graphics card that exhausts and recirculates it's heat into your case.

I haven't seen a need for a better cooler on my FX8350, but then again I don't overclock.

As for the rest of your parts, most of the components are fine, but I've never liked wireless mice for gaming. They always had a nasty habit of "sleeping" in the middle of a game on me.

Thanks for the quick reply.

In that case I can save some money with the cpu cooler, I won't be overclocking. As for the mouse, I won't be playing games that use the mouse a lot, but if it starts to bug me I could just switch it out with my wired mouse on another computer.

I know about how cpu intensive fsx is. I am on a limited budget but I designed this build with the capability of upgrading in the future. I also plan to play some other games to, but mostly FSX.

Look at this way, the FX8350 is optimized for multi-threaded applications, in fact, in those environments (and FSX is multi-threaded), the only thing faster is a hyper threaded i7 that costs $160 more.

OK, so you're on a budget, which I understand and can appreciate. Nevertheless, you haven't mentioned CPU overclocking, which is vital to FSX frame rate.

Also, you've selected a 7950. Are you aware that FSX, as well as X-Plane perform better with nVidia hardware and drivers?

"The following link is to X-Plane's website - http://www.x-plane.com/store/hardware/ -

and to their partner's website, XForce PC, who builds their PC's - http://xforcepc.com/store/index.php/computers.html?mode...

This is their description of their recommended hardware configuration:

"XForcePC Computer Specifically Designed for X-Plane: Intel Quad Core i5-3570K Processor overclocked at 4.0GHz, 16 Gigabytes of DDR-3 1600MHz" ... "Nvidia GTX 660 Video Card with 2GB. Requires no special adapters to run X-Plane on 3 screens."

At the time that was written, the GTX 760 wasn't released yet, however, the GTX 760 would be a better choice for FSX than the slightly more expensive 7950. Check out this review - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-760-review-gk104,3542.html - where the 7950 is tested and compared with the 760, as well as several other GPU's.

Hope this helps,

What GTX 760 do you recommend? I like the Gigabyte GTX 760 OC Windforce. There seems to be two different models but they have the same name. The one in the review has the three fans while the other one has a triangle vent in between the fans. What is the difference? As for the overclocking, i don't know what you want me to mention other than i'm fine with it.

Thanks

If you like it then go with it, but it will only exhaust about 25% of it's heat out the back of your case, however, it will increase the ambient temperature inside your case, thereby reducing your overclocking potential due to increased CPU temperature.

I won't use a card with that cooling configuration in my FSX case because of my highly OC'd CPU. With most liquid cooled CPU's, that card would have little effect on processor Core temperatures, but being old school, I just have an inherent issue with purposely circulating liquid in close proximity to electronics. That being said, I always try my very best to configure my rigs so that the air cooling insdie my case is as efficient and as effective as possible.

Since flight simulations are about 80% CPU bound, I personally have found that giving CPU overclocking the highest priority works best toward achieving the highest frame rates.

I will go with the one you recommended then. As for the motherboard do you have any advice. I was looking around and saw most people had problems with their MSI motherboards. Most people seem to prefer ASUS and Gigabyte. Any advice on which way to go? Thanks!
