Clicking InGame Randomly Minimizes Game

So I recently got GTA IV in the Steam sale and absolutely loving another play through of it (originally played it on the xbox)

However, randomly in game when I click, notably when in the 'pause' menu, and occasionally when right clicking to aim at someone, it goes to the desktop as if I have Alt + Tabbed. I'm pretty sure I'm not crashing to the desktop, and nothing is getting too hot as I've checked.

A while I ago I seem to remember having a similar problem with Fallout 3 doing this, and someone suggested fiddling with a few display settings and it never minimized again. I cannot remember what I was told however.

Specs for reference although shouldn't be needed:

i5 2500k
2x GTX 560ti Top
8GB Ram
64bit Win 7
Dual Monitors (one being my tv connected via HDMi)

Solution
I can't think of anything off the top of my head. Civ V does that to me all the time, but the game won't minimize if I click off the screen it just loses focus. Out of curiousity could you try to disable the second monitor and play on just one screen? Does the problem go away? If it doesn't go away then we will know if it is related to having 2 monitors or not.
Since you have dual monitors I think I know what the problem is. Sometimes your cursor isn't locked to the main monitor. When you push it over to one side it will go to the other monitor, even though it is hidden. Now when you click it makes the other monitor active thus minimizing your game. Try this: Right click on the .exe for the game > properties> compatibility> check disable desktop composition. Does that prevent it from happening?

Hmm that sounded like it should have worked, alas no...

Your explanation does make a lot of sense though, it does seem to happen now after driving around for a bit which involves a lot of mouse movement. I suppose a be all and end all solution would be to disconnect the second screen when not in use, but seems a lot of hassle to something that make have a simpler solution.

You have anything else you can suggest for me wanderer?

Cheers ^_^

Well it seems Mr Second Screen was the culprit. Switched it off in the control panel and no more drop outs! Seems like a make shift solution for the time being but if it works it works. Thank you for your time Wanderer!
