Is it dangerous to take apart my xbox 360?

I got red ring last year and it's sitting around as a paper weight. I'm bored sitting home today and was wondering if it's safe to take it apart? It's not covered under warranty anymore. Is there any chance of getting electrocuted or anything?

As long as the power cord is out, there is zero risk (push the power button before you begin to drain any remaining power). Also, remember to ground yourself before working with hardware (touch a sink or a metal object.) Its to protect the electrical components from damage, but it doesn't affect your safety.

You would want to watch out for the capacitors, they can hold power and can provide a pretty nasty shock. *Edit* I forgot to mention as above that you can hold down the power button to drain the capacitors. I had a friend who home repaired his red ring 360. ifixit has a guide for disassembly and also offers a kit to repair it, you will likely need a few extra tools you may or may not have, and they look to be included in the kit: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+Xbox+360+Red+Ring+of+Death+Fix+Kit/3550/1
