Tell me what I can improve on to cut costs if possible and but still have good specs.

you could go for AMD FX processors, much cheaper and the same bang, could you post the prices you paid or your price target?

Right now I'm right under 1k, I want to try to lower it to around 900.

buy 8gb of ram.... 2x4 or 16 2x8 use dual channel instead of 3x4 in single channel
