How do I make Desktop icons only show text when selected?

Sorry for the long title, didn't really knew anything shorter... :| if you're wondering, my OS is Windows XP, I have a very filled Desktop and I would like to actually see my wallpaper :)

Not sure this - http://ihacking.wordpress.com/2007/07/06/make-icons-background-transparent-in-windows-xp-if-its-not/ - is what you are looking for but it may be worth a look. You could create folders on the desktop and organize your icons in those folders. It will require and extra step when you want to launch a program but it will free up screen space.
