Hello fellow Tom's members,

It's been a couple of years since I've looked in to the GPU market and I'm in need of some guidance.

The question:

For $250, should I purchase an additional GTX 570 to SLI with my current 570 or go with a single card in that general price range?

I'm very confident my system can handle SLI, but here's the specifics below.

1.) Motherboard - ASRock 990FX Extreme 4
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

2.) Power Supply - IN WIN Commander 1200W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

3.) I currently have GPU- ASUS ENGTX570
**Considering purchasing 1 more for SLI**
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
(I've found this card available from a couple of sites online for $250)

My case, INWin's Dragonrider, is plenty big enough to hold both triple slot cards. And as soon as newegg updates it's wishlists, I'll post a public link to my full PC build. I'm gearing up for BF4 and Rome: Total War 2, so I plan on purchasing in roughly 2-3 months.

So let me know what you think guys, and as always I definitely appreciate your help! :)

SLI has issues scaling and with some microstuttering. A single-GPU setup for the most part is better when it comes to value for money and has far less power consumption as well. A GTX 770 will be a nice upgrade over a GTX 570 and be far more practical than dual 570s that are starting to show their age.

^ Won't get one for $250. If you sell your GTX570 - that will bring down the bottom line.

Edit: as an SLI_er, I would much rather have a GTX770 over SLI GTX570. Way less heat.

I found a few open box 570's for $245.... Not sure I feel about open box though, didn't see that earlier.

I think I'd be okay on heat too. The cooler, although almost drooping because of size lol, really impressed me. Hardly get over 50C under stress testing. I can see the general consensus is probably going to be not to SLI though haha. Good idea on selling my current card though... Didn't think about that.

Okay, heat and power consumption aside, how would the 570's SLI compare to today's $250-300 cards? That's really what I'm after, and can't seem to find any decent tables, shootouts, comparisons, ect. online about this stuff.

I'm water cooling my CPU with 4 fans on the radiator pushing it out of the case (Corsair H100 I believe). So that wouldn't be a problem.

Oh, and I just noticed my wording may have been a little confusing in my original post. I've updated it to make it a bit more clear. I do have 1 GTX 570 already. So I'd only be buying one more to SLI.

A 570 is equivalent to a GTX 650ti Boost, so two are around GTX 590 performance, but upgrading to a GTX 760 or 770 is much more practical.
