Why is the Optical drive usually on top?...

And is it ok to put on the bottom bay slot? On my particular case I think it would look cooler on the bottom, and I was wanting to make sure that there were no drawbacks to this.

And to answer why it's usually on top: Back in the old days, hard drives were also the size of the dvd/cdrom drive. But the dvd/cdrom drive came after the hard drive as an "upgrade", and usually the only space available was on top of the hard drives because the hard drive was there first and always closest to the motherboard connector.
