I'd go Intel if you want a higher performance CPU use the Intel Core i5-3350P $179.99, if you want to save a little and put the money into a faster GPU go with the Intel Core i3-3220 $129.99.I would definitely not suggest an i3 for gaming. The i5 you suggested is barely cutting it, and the 8350 would crush it. My recommendation is the 8350, and then get a better GPU once you have saved up enough money later on. A 650Ti will be sufficient to play current/next gen games on medium settings at 1080p.

they should really make a forum rule to ban suggestion of any dual core anything other than browsing/music/movie pc!
ppl need to understand that the faster ppl move out of this dual core wet dream, developers will start to use more threads.
i work at as a software dev and i cannot get approval for a project to make a code 5-multithreaded as apparently not enough ppl use more than 2 cores! but since its a scientific tool, the performance gain will be phenomenal ! its a shame really.

Here's a good way to improve your gaming:
CPU (6300):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...
Now you have $80 left for a better GPU:
Either the 7950 (better):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Or the 760:

What kinds of games are you playing that is a factor on what you need. For the price of the FX-8350 you can get a i5-3550 and you'll have more options to upgrade later then you do with the FX-8350. If you can afford it I'd get the i5-3570K, I got mine for $189, and that is without a doubt the best gaming CPU for under $200.

You mean to say that AMD doesn't switch it's sockets often and will provide a pathway for upgrading.

Lets see AMD has gone from the AM3 to the AM3+, plus added the FM1 & the FM2 and those are not compatible with the AM3+ models or each other.
AMD knows it can't compete with performance with the FX line its putting most of its efforts into the APU models. The FX-8350 is all there is right now AMD’s upcoming FX-8770 and FX-9000 CPUs were supposed to be out in June, but only selling to OEMs. Prices are rumored to start at $700+. Not really a good upgrade option for the future there.
With the 1155 we still have the i7-3770 models which is still under $325. You can buy a i5-3570K today for $189 at Microcenter if there is one near you I'd do that in a heartbeat.

FM are for APU and AM3+ is for their performance line.Correct though, there is speculation the FX line will end soon and there will be a new APU line the FM2+ or FM3, which won't be compatible with the FM2s. It is looking like more and more AMD is putting all it eggs in the APU basket.

I don't see a complete withdrawal from the performance by AMD. 1) It would be a monopoly for Intel, I believe. Maybe it's a gray area since AMD are technically still producing processors but of a different type, if they went all in with APU. 2) Giving up on the performance line would be a big loss for AMD's revenue considering that they're already well established and well known.
November is when AMD will update their position in the market so we'll have an answer soon. But the architecture from PD to SR doesn't seem radical enough to warrant a new socket.

I agree it wold be bad for the consumer if AMD drops the performance line completely but to be honest they haven't been able to compete in that segment since the Sandy Bridge came out and the new models the FX-9000s models seem too expensive and to problematic to be popular.
