Which 7870 should I get?

Option 1 (from sapphire) - 170

I have little knowledge of why 2 cards would be different price
I used the compare tool and saw that the sapphire model has 50 more core clock speed.

I usually go for the higher price model but does the lower price out perform the other one.

I'm using a 500W psu

The sapphire is faster, better & a good price. There is no glory in overpaying. option #1

The HIS model will exhaust almost all of its heat from your case; the Sapphire will not. Although blower-style coolers can be loud, I have heard recordings of the HIS "Black Hole" cooler and it is not at all. If your case is large enough, I would choose the HIS card, because getting the heat out of your case can be a Big Deal. If you don't have the room for it, the Sapphire is much smaller, and won't be a bad card, but the clock speed difference is not significant. You'll need to make sure you have good airflow through your case to get rid of its heat.

I have a XFX HD7870; very similar to the Sapphire. It's been a good card, but as much heat as it produces, I rather regret not waiting until the HIS came back into stock back when I bought it.

Actually the reviews all over a pretty great for that HIS but if your case is pretty big get the cheaper one. also never settle reloaded level up!

Its on a great sale right now (should be around 180 after 10% off coupon). I have it and it has run like a dream for me. Very little noise / heat and a lot of performance.

^That one is a very good deal, but again what heat it produces will be dumped into your case. If you have decent case airflow (flow that is, not just a bunch of random fans), it shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, that is true, the fans blow down into the card so all you need is some decent airflow and youll be golden. I have an overclocked 8350 so the GPU overheating is the least of my problems

Lifetime warranty (at least when I bought it). Plus XFX is a more trusted brand. Very good products, its basically the EVGA of AMD cards.

I can't speak about the Sapphire, but I can about the XFX, having owned a few of them. Construction is really solid. The shrouds are aluminum, not plastic. Components appear to be higher quality (e.g. solid caps, ferrite chokes).

I would go for the Sapphire, it's pretty cheap and a great card, dual fan and it runs pretty cool.
