Solution
Certain licenses are compatible with the Install Windows 8 button on the Windows Support page Upgrade to Windows 8 with only a product key. This process allows you to create USB or optical installation media.

Some licenses are not compatible with the above process, for those you will need to either use an external optical drive as others have mentioned, or to create USB media using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. You would first need to capture the disk in ISO format, and then run the tool to create USB media from the ISO.

There is also the more powerful and complex method of creating custom installation media using the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT). This process would involve installing MDT and the...

I am pretty sure you can I would say yes cause your produt key code is valid and you should be able to go through with the install and simply activate it with your product key or just borrow a friends external drive LOL!

Unfortunately, creating a USB bootable from the DVD requires a DVD drive. System builder copies of Windows 8, which is what you most likely have, are designed to work with their specific key. You can create a USB bootable using this process on another machine and use the USB bootable on your father's machine.

My personal suggestion is to just buy a $20 external DVD/CD writer that connects through USB, such as this:

Without an internal DVD drive, you might find something like this to be very helpful in the future.

As for using an ISO from another source and trying to use your key with it, good luck. There are some ways to make things like this work, such as duping an Upgrade package into installing using a key you already have. I have three copies of Windows 8 and generally the results of trying things like this are pretty poor and depend on very specific things, such as an OEM Windows key being embedded in the BIOS, to work. If you go this route, I wish you better luck than I have had.

There is also the more powerful and complex method of creating custom installation media using the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT). This process would involve installing MDT and the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK), creating a deployment share, importing the installation files from disk, creating a default deployment Task Sequence, creating a deployment media store, then creating USB boot media from that store. The advantages to using MDT are realized when installing Windows to a multitude of systems. MDT allows the installation process to become highly automated, including the information requested by Windows Setup, installation of drivers and applications, etc.
