I have the 3570k now and was wondering if i should sell it and get the 8350. Right now i'm financially stable enough to set myself up for the future of gaming.

I also wanted to know if something like the 2600k (considering it has multithreading support) if it will run well in the future.

There isn't any CPU that is "better for the future." 8 CORES sound tempting but it is useless, IMO, 5 years from now, most games would hopefully utilize even 6 cores. No game in the current and next gen(Frostbite 3, Distrupt, Unreal Engine 4) would utilize 8 cores or even 4. At a current point. You can see from here and decide yourself http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/697?vs=701

Right now you are looking at a $200 CPU + ~$150 MOBO. Do you think it is worth it? For me, no. I would rather be investing it into say, a better monitor, speakers, peripherals, it may seems small but can provide a whole lot better experience. You would just be wasting ~$350 right now and right when you decide to upgrade. 3-4 Years from now, 8...

There is nothing wrong with the 3570k. Keep it until intels next gen comes as in Skylake I believe? Should be in a year or 1.5years which would be just good enought for the 3570k. Right now, it is just a waste to upgrade considering it is a gaming decision. For gaming, intels single core are much better than AMDs, you don't need to use 8 cores because you won't utilize it. Gaming is Intel.

I guess I'm the only one who remembers an announcement from AMD about a year ago stating that they would no longer compete with Intel for new desktop business. If they don't think their product is competitive why would you?

your current cpu is at the pinnacle of the gaming mountain. I don't see any reason for you to sell it.

I'm probably not going to have enough money when that does happen. Will the 5670k have good multithreaded performance like the consoles?
I just don't want something like the 8350 pwning my 3570k in future because multithreading is better.

Like i said, i don't think i'll have that much money in the future to upgrade. So having something that is better for the future is what i'm looking for.

To answer your console question, console are made to last more than 8 years. You can't just take the CPU out and upgrade it or something similar, they are planned to made that in 2019, people would still go out and buy it even though technology in it are far behind, look at the PS3/XBOX 360.

Finally, unless you are doing some extreme work, gaming based won't utilize 4 cores for at least 3-4 years more.

I could probably get that much back with selling the 3570k and MOBO though.
If its going to be beneficial in the future having those extra cores and multithreading than i'm willing to do it.
