I have an hp h8-1214 that i got from best buy. It supposedly has 300w psu, amd fx 6100, and an amd 7450.

I went to frys to get a new card, the amd 7750 because it was the best card for the current psu i have.

I installed it yesterday, the fans spin, however nothing is shown on my monitor. It goes into powersave mode as if nothing is connected to it at all.

Im beginning to think its my psu or the gpu is dead.

I cant test the gpu on any other computer and the pci slot isnt busted because my stock card (amd 7450) works fine when i put it back in.

Im fairly new to all of this upgrading stuff, any help is appreciated.

Im using hdmi to monitor using an adapter that came with the monitor.

There was no adapter for dvi with my card.

Could power be the issue or is it more likely to be a busted unit? Now that i think about it, the box was semi open.

There was a coolmaster 500w for 50 bucks at frys. Should i try getting that and replacing the gpu with a 7770 since ill have more power? I kind of want the asus one as it seems smaller and the gigabyte is a behemoth..

If it is a psu issue, do my current symptoms check out? Like the fans spinning and pc coming on but no display whatsoever (Not even bios)

Yes those are symptoms of a low power PSU. It can supply power for the basic functions, but it can't power the GPU its self. The ones I posted above are much cheaper than $50 FYI. and you would like a 7770 or a 7790 much better.

I'm pretty sure that a 430w PSU will be fine, however to get the best efficiency, you'd be better off with a 500w PSU

So i went and got a lepa 500w.

Hooked it up, then realized the atx 12v connection on my board is 4 pins and the one on the psu is 6.

Is there a way around this?!

That might be a GPU connector (they are 6 (+2) pin). The 12v connectors should be 4+4, you only need to plug in one 4 pin head.

I only had a 6 pin and a 6+2 after i connected everything.

On the box it says it has a 24 pin main power, 4 pin peripheral, 6 pin pci-e, 6 pin + 2 pci-e, sata, 4 pin floppy, and a 4+4 pin CPU.

Im guessing the 4+4 pin is the one i need to use but i couldve sworn i only had the pci cables left once i hooked it up.

Also, the 4+4 is one solid piece. Its not broken in half. Do i have to split it myself?

On further inspection, it seems like the 4+4 pin is break-off-able. But is this really the right cord? Its black and yellow wires and it has the mesh cover on the outside.

Is this what im supposed to hook into the atx 12v molex slot?

I just opened my pc. I dont see a place where i couldve used that 8 pin. I must have over looked it once I panicked and thought that i needed to use a PCI-E cable there.

FML

So, i guess im going to put her down for another surgery and try this 4 pin.

I guess my next question would be, if this works, do I need to uninstall my previous gfx driviers? Also, will it be able to display through HDMI on boot with the new GPU or do I need to get a VGA cable?
