Laptop computer randomly goes black and freezes when playing games, is this out of date drivers or a hardware failure?

My ACER laptop gets very hot but only when I haven't cleaned it for a while as the fan gets clogged up with dust. It only tends to happen in games but it will randomly turn off sometimes at any time. my computer is an Acer 7540/7540G/7240 series laptop running windows 7 home premium that I have had for about 3 years and have had a lot of problems with which I have managed to fix up until now.

Solution
Its probably a combination of old drives and an outdated card, look up the graphics chipset and go to the manufacturers website and get the latest version.

Could you also tell me the model of the onboard graphics to see if they are just too outdated?

I am using an AMD Athlon II Dual-Corse M320 processor, I have DirectX 11 and I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500/5100 Series graphics card. If you need any more information let me know.

A lot of different kinds of games, I will put a list here:

Euro Truck Simulator 2
Fallout
Fallout 2
Imscared
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Bioshock
Don't Starve
Dwarfs
Garry's Mod
Killing Floor
Monday Night Combat
Moonbase Alpha
Paranormal
Red Orchestra
Red Orchestra 2 Heroes of Stalingrad
Minecraft
Slender: The Arrival
SCP - Containment Breach
Warframe
Half Life 2
Zombie Panic Source

I used to play World of Warcraft as well but I uninstalled it a while ago before the problems started happening however it may have still had an effect so I thought I would tell you.

With this chipset, you only really can play casual games, most of these games really stress out an old amd 4000 and can even cause some crashing. The really problem may be an old GPU, sorry to say, but you might have to put some higher demand games down until you get a better computer

I have set a scan running, installed all of my windows update, checked for driver updates and I think I managed to update it like you said and I am going to clean the inside of the laptop to avoid dust then I will try Killing Floor as the problem happens faster on that than anything else but any other things that I could do just to be sure I will do.

Think thats it, it may fix the problem, but if it doesn't, its probably time for an upgrade or replacement
