Hello!

Recently I decided to update my system, not for hard core gaming but just to seal the deal.

So my current system is:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2 Ghz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT 512 MB
Motherboard: ASRock ConRoe1333-1394
RAM: 2 GB
PSU: CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 (just bought)

So I started with graphics card - bought MSI Radeon HD 7770 1GB. Hoped I could already start using it before everything else is bought. Installed on current system, but I get no image, only several beeps on startup and graphics card fan is spinning. Card's power wire is connected...

Maybe it is because of motherboard? Or RAM too short? The only thing I'am worried about is that graphics card is damaged...

I hope someone can clear it out for me (about motherboard, RAM) I understand that nobody can identify if my card is damaged..

Solution
Must be BIOS incompatibility. System is probably loading to check try to connect display to onboard VGA out.
Problem is with this card being PCIe 3.0 and your MB is from PCIe 1.1 times.

It can be remedied by BIOS update. At least I was able to source one in the same case from manufacturer (MSI) for my 945GC based board.

So it goes like this try their latest BIOS http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/ConRoe1333-1394/?cat=Download&os=BIOS
And if it's still not working ask their support for tweaked BIOS for PCIe2.1/3.0 cards.

put the old card in, update your bios, turn system back on to make sure bios update happened propperly, turn off system, unplug system from the wall, clr_cmos, pull the bios battery, wait 5 minutes, put battery back in, put in new gpu, turn on system.

The latest BIOS provided (1.40) is already my motherboards default version... I just wrote to ASRock support, maybe there are other updates available.

And about beeps, there are more than 5, it is 8 or 9 I guess, beeping is very fast...

Thank You all for answers, I will report here when I get some results.

That would be your HD 7770 now who causes the problem. PCI-E x16 1.0 port may be slow, but 3.0 would be compatible with 1.0 port (Just like usb 2.0 disk can work on usb 1.1 port by slowing down the speed) Go RMA anyway.

This would help. And since your 8500GT works, I guess it is 8 beeps, is it?

I did some research on google and found this article - very interesting http://www.overclock.net/a/the-final-answer-to-the-controversial-pcie-x16-version-compatibility
Maybe there are really some problems with ATI graphics cards and some older PCIe 1.0/1.1 motherboards. I will buy new motherboard and CPU soon and then will see...
Until then I will be happy to hear any other opinions or advises.

THis link is for the different MB BIOS. OP has to contact AsRock support for right tweaked BIOS since they didn't published one for his board on it's support site.
