I don't know what to do. My computer randomly shut down and then would not boot up. When I tried to boot up in safe mode it didn't work. Bios doesn't show my hard drive. Someone told me it sounds like a broken motherboard. Does this sound correct? What do I do?

Solution
Could be a failed hard drive. I don't think it's a failed motherboard.

Open up the PC and put your hand on some bare metal in the case (to discharge your static electricity).
Then, put your hand on your hard drive. See if you feel it spinning.

Post back here with your results.

Also, did you have backups for your important data?

I truly appreciate your help with this! I just paid over $500 about 4 months ago to upgrade this laptop, DDR,...everything. Turns out...the company I trusted didn't bother to screw the hard drive in and when I opened the back it fell out. Once I snapped it back in place everything works just great! I never was able to backup the new files and programs before it stopped working. I now have an external hard drive and am saving EVERYTHING! Thank you for your expedient help!

Oh, you didn't mention it was a laptop. That's good, because I don't think I would have suggested to open it as the first step :p

Glad you found the problem.
And yes, make regular backups (to external hard drives, network storage, dropbox, etc.), you never know what can happen!
