Hi I recently purchased an Asus Xonar essence (pci) only to discover that my new computer -(HP Envy H8 1534) IS PCIE. I got my comp at best buy so I asked a Geek Squad agent if it was advisable to get an adapter and he said it was inadvisable and poor practice, for the technologies were completely different. Any thoughts on the feasibly of using an adapter or possible issues, or weather or not the Geek Squad member was more or less correct? Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt

I do not believe there is such a thing as a PCI to PCIe adapter. If there is it would be clunky. You would be better of returning or selling the PCI card.

PCI to PCIe Bridge controllers, yes, but that is so the same circuit design can be used to make both types of cards. This was done in the early days of PCIe.

Not really, something like this I presume?

That should work just fine! I think he thought you meant PCI - PCI-E, which would be inadvisable, but what you want to do, PCI-E - PCI, will be fine :) (Personally I'd try to exchange the product for a PCI-E version, because the only real reason to justify doing something like this would be if you had a very expensive piece of equipment)
