Bootable USB issue..

I am currently following this guide, and I'm stuck when it comes to Step 3 of Section II. As it asks me to boot from a bootable usb to format the disks... I've had great trouble with getting my Corsair Voyager GT Turbo 64gb working as a bootable USB. I've mainly tried to make it so that it boots Ubuntu. I've tried LiveUSB, Ubuntu's USB installer, e.t.c. And the main issue is that after I boot from the USB, and the installation begins, it always freezes on the purple screen with red/white dots signifying progress underneath an Ubuntu logo. I've only had success with making the USB boot into MS DOS, but I have no clue on how to format drives easily with MS DOS as it seems somewhat complex. Any ideas on how to make this process much easier?

I prefer to use powerISO, you can download it for free and it great for mounting ISO disk and creating bootable USB drives. Once you have it installed go under tools at the top and select make bootable USB. Select the flash drive and ISO image and let it do its thing.

Also might want to try re-downloading the Ubuntu ISO incase it got corrupted during the download, that would prevent the install from completing.

Ok... I've tried like 3 different USBs now, they all freeze at the same point

Unless I'm really unlucky with USBs, I think there must be another problem. You guys have any idea what it is? Maybe it is one of the devices connected to my PC? (sound card, touchpad, e.t.c)? I've got my system working with Lucid MVP, maybe thats an issue? Any ideas guys?

Hmm... Im getting annoyed now... all I can boot into is MS DOS, and I really don't wanna use that to try and format my drives just incase I format the wrong one (the one with a backup on it :S). I just wanna boot into a an interface that's some what easy to use to format drives >.>

I am so confused... >.> I did all the steps in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_02Ca5LJpg), I mean I've done it about 5 times now... at it always freezes at the purple screen with the ubuntu logo + red/white dots beneath it. I mean.. maybe I'm being impatient but I've left it at times at least for an hour, and his just loads in a few seconds

You just use the win7 feature to make bootable USB, you don't need download any software. Here is the link and use the 2nd part-Manual Creation.

I did this whole process once before, I booted from the usb and it acts as if it was installing windows, asking me to select a drive to install windows onto instead of actually booting into an os :S

It seems very promising since I can actually get into MS DOS. The only problem I have with the guide is step "3. Boot up your system again, enter the BIOS and change your SATA controller settings to Compatible/Legacy IDE. Also, align your boot priority to make sure you boot off the USB drive."

It asks me to change the sata controller :S, but the other guide told me to leave it as RAID. I fear if i change it to IDE it might ruin the whole process, so can I just not change it to IDE and hope the rest of it works, and try to erase my SSDs that way?

Or is possible that I temporarily change the controller to IDE, while I erase both SSD's then I switch back over to RAID afterwards??

OK interesting experiment I just tried out, I switched to IDE tried booting off the SSD - it failed. But then I switched back to RAID and booted of the SSD - it worked - same as before (with the Intel Raid Controller screen popping after my BIOS screen). Does this mean that temporily that I can temporarily switch to IDE while I wipe my drives? Then I shall switch back to RAID once they are wipped... and continue with the process

My only worry with this is that if I wipe my drives in this way (not following the guide exactly) will it affect the Intel Raid Controller screen in any way?

If you want to clean installation then you can make that easy.

1) Make the bootable USB win the win7.
2) you need other USB, download the intel RST driver and load into it for later install the driver. ( only get the STOR_Win7_8_12.5.0.1066_f6flpy-x64.zip )

3) Get the manual in hand. Go to Chapter5 RAID.
4) Connect the two SSS, and your bootable USB.
5)Go to the BIOS set: a) USB boot is first one, you need connect the USB into the USB2.0, do not use the USB3.0 port now because you need the USB3.0 driver. b) set the SATA config. to RAID. Saving and exit.
6) After set up the RAID,128Kb, exit and load the OS. During the installation you need click load the driver to install the intel RST. Now you need connect the 2nd USB containing the RST driver, click the browse to locate the RST to install.
After that you can follow the screen instructions to install the win7. And you need change the boot order to HDD is first boot in the BIOS.
7) After done the installation OS, connect the regular HDD and other devices, install the network, audio, GPU, utilities, intel chipse driver ( download it from intel website), intel RST ( STOR_Win7_8_12.5.0.1066.exe ), USB30, antivirus, and other software.

I don't wanna do a clean installation :S I want to use the guide to keep my files, but he says I gotta wipe the SSDs to maintain their performance, then I put them in RAID 0, then use an Windows 7 disc to repair the boot drive (now in RAID) from an image in my backup drive.

Using this guide intel RST for making the raid.

Or using "EaseUS Disk Copy Home Edition 2.3.1" to make a cloning, then setup the raid, boot the PC with that copy to make other cloning into the RAID.

The intel guide seems MUCH simpler than the OCZ guide, ok thanks

Let me try that. Hopefully i won't lose all my data ^^ I've got a back up anyways... but ye ^^ still hope for the best. Wish me luck

Erm.. there's a problem :S. The intel RST nearly fooled me. I could not see any option of migrating my data from my current SSD into the RAID to be created. It even warned me that if I went into RAID I would lose all my data (very much like in the OCZ guide). I mean the OCZ guide seems to be working so far, it just really bugs me that I can't wipe my drives. Guys tell me an easy way of wiping my drives ;(

(also cin, on the second method you listed, I would require another hard drive which I don't currently have)

All right, let us back up a little bit.

Do you have single SSD with win7+ programs? And you need add other SSD to make the RAID but don't want to loss all data. And you have the bootable USB and a back up of copy your OS+ data into some storage. As I know you need make the system repair disc when you did the backup in the win7, or do you use other software to backup?

And I did try to make the RAID0 by using the intel RST, you need go to BIOS setup the SATA config. to RAID first, then install the intel RST, reboot the PC, open the intel RST.

And when I try to do that I have some data in one HDD, and when I open the RST I can see the option "create a volume" (in the left panel) for RAID, and following the on screen instruction, there is other option say do you want to keep the data or not before start to make the RAID0, after done my data is still in there. And if you want me try to put the OS in it to try again. I can do it. Please let me know.

It's ok cin ^^ I've finally got the RAID working. And what you have said would have made my life much easier if it were said 3 days ago XD. Yes, I had "a single SSD with win7+ programs" and I did have backup. I did also sort of have a bootable USB (just not the sort I was really looking for) but it would have worked for your suggested method.

What I ended up doing was following the OCZ guide you linked me, unfortunately that process was a bit more long winded, but it worked XD. The only bit that really frustrated me was cleaning/wiping the drives... so that you would maintain you SSD's performance. I used DBAN in the end, with quick erase (I believe it just wrote in 0s everywhere), which I don't believe was the most effective solution... but since HDDERASE didn't work + I ceebed waiting 3 days for DBAN's Gutmann Wipe method, I just did the quick way...

I am selecting your answer as best since it would have been a very nice solution to my whole RAID 0 problem. But do you have any opinions on why I can note create a bootable Ubuntu enviroment with my USB + why I cannot run HDDERASE (it would boot into MS-DOS, then when I go into HDDERASE there would not be any devices displayed)?

Sorry I don't have any opinions about the Ubuntu and HDDERASE because I can only use the window, and this is the microsoft fault, let most of us like me use the PC just can like click and clik.
