Hi,

I just tried to put in a graphics card in a homebuild:

MSI A55M-P33 Motherboard
500 w power supply

Graphics card is HIS Radeon 7770, which recommends 500 watts using a six pin PCIe connector

When I first put the card in the computer powered on but did not boot (no usual beep). Fans spun but no signal to the monitor (plugged into new card).

I disconnected the card and reconnected monitor to the motherboard, started it up and it worked.

I then reinstalled the card, turned it on, and this time no power at all. No fans, nothing.

I uninstalled the card, back to old configuration, and still no power. Nothing.

I checked the power connectors to make sure nothing came lose.

Could I have some how fried the power supply?

Thanks, I'm stumped...and my son has no computer!

Larry

Thanks for the advice. Just did the paper clip trick. Nothing! Tried it with both black wires on either side of the green one. And tried plugged into the power strip and directly into the wall. I guess I can assume I blew the power supply? I have very little running in the machine one HD, one DVD, plus two case fans and, of course, the MB.

Would this have caused damage to other components?

And will running out to Best Buy to pick up an available Corsair Gaming Series 700 watt do the trick?

Thanks again.

Update: put in a new Thermaltalke 850 psu. Computer won't boot up with the new graphics card installed and 6pin power plugged in. Fans go, but no boot. When I uninstall the graphics card and put the monitor back on the motherboard, it boots up fine. It will even boot up from the motherboard if the new card is in the PCIe slot, but with the PCI power not plugged in.

I have gone to the MB bios, but don't see anywhere to change the graphics or video settings/preferences. I did install the drivers for the new card, even though I should think it would boot without.

Is there any reason my Motherboard and the graphics card would not be compatible?

I'm definitely stumped! (Although that's not exactly a rare condition.)
