My CPU fan takes up the recommended ram slots. So I filled in the slots that were open. Now my new computer only read 16 of the 32 GB of ram. Is that why because I don't have them in the slots they want. I'm using 4x8 and a Intel 3930k processor. NHD14 cooling CPU heat sink is huge

Solution
First of all, make sure it is all inserted correctly. I'm sure you have already.

Try putting the memory in two sticks at a time, and see if any of the sticks don't work. If they all work, then it'll be because you're filling the slots in the wrong order. In which case there's three options (in order of preference): insert the RAM before putting the cooler on (assuming that it is the cooler blocking the installation, rather than the RAM being too high to fit under the cooler), buy some RAM that isn't too high to fit under it, or buy a different cooler that has more RAM clearance.

What is the OS you are using ? If you are using "Windows 7 64Bit Home Premium" then the max memory is limited to 16GB and that's why it is recognizing 16GB.

Or uncheck the max memory limit: Go to Msconfig > boot > advanced > uncheck max memory limit. Hope that helps!!
