Lag creating secondary Harddrive

Hey guys,

I have a curious problem, I did a clean of my computer with CCleaner before finishing up for the night and processed to shutdown my computer.

The following morning I turned on my computer and noticed it's boot time had drastically increased and my main administrative account does not load correctly. When I do log into that account it's all black, no background, etc.

I hopped onto my guest account and it works fine, although it now suffers from extreme lag and a non-responsive UI, after some tinkering I decided to disconnect my secondary harddrive and restarted my computer, the boot time returned to regular and I was able to use my administrative account.

However I cannot seem to do anything with my secondary harddrive, I can't even right click it for the drop down menu to format it, nor does it show up on the disk management menu when it is connected.

Is there some other way a format could be achieved?

System Specs:
OS: Windows 7 Home premium 64bit
Mobo: EVGA Z68 FTW
Harddrive 2: WDC WD5000 500gbs

It is possible that the drive is dying or dead and that the timing was just coincidence. I've used CCleaner on dozens of machines for years and never had any corruption issues.

If you attach the second HDD does it show up in Diskpart if you open a admin level command prompt window and type diskpart, then next line type list disk -- does the disk show up, if so note the number of the disk. You can do a format through diskpart (but be VERY careful to use the correct disk number and commands).

If it shows up only in diskpart, I can give you the commands you need, but you will have to check it out first to determine that it is still functional. If it doesn't show up there, try attaching it on a different controller on the motherboard...

HERE is a great page for diskpart syntax.
