Can you test boot with IGP while you have a graphics card installed?

Background on my problem

I just put together a new computer (all new parts) but I'm experiencing some difficulties.

Case fans turn on, CPU fan turns on, case LEDs turn on.

Graphics card fans do not turn on, system doesn't boot (monitor turns on and is set to the proper connection but it never detects a signal from the system).

[strike]What I want to try

Perhaps something is wrong with my graphics card? I want to try booting using IGP (assuming I have one see parts below). Hopefully this way I can determine if the graphics card is faulty or if I just installed it incorrectly.

Question

So, assuming my plan makes sense, how do I use the IGP to boot in the place of the GTX770?[/strike]

I just plugged in the monitor to the motherboard DVI and it posts now. So I guess I must have messed up the card installation (which I've checked many many times to no avail) or the graphics card is defective.

Parts

-Motherboard: MSI Motherboard ATX DDR3 1333 LGA 1150 Z87-G43
-CPU: Intel Core i5-4670 3.4GHz 6MB Cache Quad-Core
-Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2x4 GB) PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3 240-Pin SDRAM Dual Channel
-Video Card: Gigabyte GTX 770 GDDR5-2GB WINDFORCE 3X Graphics Card
-PSU: Corsair Enthusiast Series 650-Watt Power Supply

Other potentially relevant info

- I've already looked through the stickied troubleshooting guide and watched some building videos from start to finish so I'm fairly confident that I have plugged in everything. CPU connector on motherboard, both PCI-E on the GTX770, 20+4 pin, etc.
- I built the computer on an elevated surface, but my floors are all carpet unfortunately. I touched the metal on my case essentially the entire time and I never touched the motherboard directly, but I imagine it's possible I messed it up somehow (the fans and leds still work fine though so I don't know).

Thanks in advance!

er, can't figure out how to delete a post. But anyway, I would still appreciate feedback if possible. Is there a way to test if my graphics card is to blame?

I connected 2 PCI-E. One 6+2 pin and one 6 pin.
I also put the card in the PCI_E2 slot on the motherboard. I made sure it clicked into place and the lock is in the proper position.

Besides those 3 connections nothing else should be necessary right?
