MSI 970a-G46 Video output not working

This is my first build, and here are the specs:

AMD FX 6300 Black Edition
MSI 970a-G46 motherboard
1GB Nvidia GTX 650/2GB Radeon 5850
4GB PNY DDR3 RAM
Corsair CX600M PSU
Two 500 GB hard drives

When the parts first arrived, I installed/seated everything correctly, but when I turned it on, I couldn't get any video output. I had some friends who work in IT check it out, and they verified that the setup was correct. We tried transplanting components, which verified the GTX card was defective. After that we tried using the serial port off the board itself, but still no video. My friends concluded the board was defective, so I returned it. I got the replacement yesterday, and faced the same issues.

Is there something I'm missing? Everything in the system starts up, but I can't even access the bios. We've transplanted all the other components and they work, so the only conclusion we can reach is that I've been sent two defective boards.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Solution
It's highly unlikely that 2 MBs in a row would be defective... and with the same issue. I would consider other possibilities.
1) Verify that the power cables and control wiring is connected correctly. FP wiring especially.
2) Could you have added an extra standoff that was not needed when you assembled the system? An extra standoff behind the board could be shorting out/grounding out the PCIe x16 slot.
3) if you have a voltmeter, check that the PCIe power cable (6 pin) has +12V between the yellow and black wires.
4) does your monitor actually work? Try it on your friend's system.

clutchc, the GTX 650 did have the 6 pin power cable connected. I've also tried a few of my friends' GPUs and still can't get output. The fans on the GPUs will always start up, and they work when transplanted into my friends' rigs, but they aren't putting any video out when connected to my motherboard.

Have you verified that the monitor is set to receive the signal that the card is providing? DVI, HDMI, VGA?

And how could you connect the monitor to the motherboard's integrated video when it has none? And the serial port does not provide video.

I'm using the DVI output off the GPU, but the monitor isn't receiving the signal when the GPU is connected to my motherboard. When I transplant the card, it works with no problems.

I was having the same problem as you. I purchased an MSI 970a-G46/cpu/memory combo from Newegg. The memory was not compatible with the mobo. I discovered this after talking to MSI. Newegg sells products as combo packs to 'supposedly' save ppl money, but they do not test their packages (I also spoke to Newegg about that). Try another stick of memory.

What was the make/model of the memory sticks you had trouble with?

I was having trouble with Corsair Vengeance 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800). The Corsair memory was new and came with the mobo from Newegg. The Corsair memory works in my friend's PC.
I borrowed a 2GB stick of OCZ PC3 10666 which worked and allowed me to solve my problem. Today I purchased an 8GB stick of PNY XLR8 DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) which also works. I found the PNY at BestBuy.

So I replaced the motherboard because it was fried. But I still had the issue of no video output, and it was posting. So I put in different RAM and bingo, problem solved. You have no idea how much I love you right now, iv'e finally got my first build complete after several months. Thanks so much

Hey im having the same problem about nothing showing up on my monitor when i turn on my computer. This is the first computer i've decided to build and idk what could be the problem. I also thought that the motherboard had onboard graphics and bought a serial cord and adapter for VGA which didn't help. Everything is connected properly and all the fans turn on, and the hard drive and disc drive sound like they are working too.
I have a:
XFX R7850 graphics card
AMD FX6100 processor
Two 4gb G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 2133s
1.5tb Hard Drive
and a Apevia ATX-AS500w power supply
