I currently have a Coolermaster eXtreme power plus Rs500 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171031) powering a intel i3 3245. I was wondering if it would be able to power that along with a amd radeon 7870 graphics card before I order it.

The first problem you will encounter is the lack of a 2nd PCIe power cable for the 2nd 6 pin connector on the card. The other thing is the fact that the PSU is not a true 500W PSU. It is more in the 350W category by virtue of the 2 x 18A (+12V) rails. I would avoid using that PSU with that card... although it probably would handle it.

It is only used in cross fire applications.
500W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended7

600W power supply (or greater) with four 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors recommended for AMD CrossFire™ technology.

Please post exactly what model and manufacture the 7870 is.

Are you arguing or agreeing? I am saying he needs a better PSU.
