CPU Cooler Corrosion

I bought a Zalman 9900 max, which is copper that has a nickel plating. It has some green oxidation where the heat pipes meet the place that attaches to the CPU. I know copper turns green after time, but why would it be doing this if its nickel plated? Are the heat pipes maybe leaking and causing it? Is there supposed to be enough liquid inside a heat pipe to be heard if I move it around, like could I hear it splashing inside? I dont hear anything inside, so if i should I guess its all leaked out. Thanks, and sorry if its a dumb question, but I have checked google for the past hour and still dont know.

Solution
The heatpipes don't have water in them, or any liquid, for that matter - they are solid metal. My guess would be ambient humidity is causing the problem, but that's just a guess.

Thanks for the input, but the box the cooler comes in has a big picture showing the heat pipes are not solid, they are hollow.

Doesn't look too severe, but it's still unusual. What is the climate like where you live? Is it humid? If so, this may be the cause of the issue.
