Hey all as the tittle says I'm trying to fix up an old computer for a friend. The problem is that it keeps crashing when I boot into windows xp (I have also put win 7 with the same luck), however I have been able to actually boot into windows and install a few drivers but eventually it always crashes.
Let me go through and tell you the things I've checked and how.
-Power supply/I hooked up my current power supply from my working computer to the old computer and it still crashed
-RAM/ I testes both pairs by them selves and it still crashes, also ran memtest for about 4 hours and it passes
-Hard drive/This is what I think it is but so far it's passed a few tests (running seatools right now)
The computer is using a video card but I can't remove it and try the computer without it because the only video port is for a CRT monitor.
So I guess it's either the processor or the mobo. Are their anyway to test these outside of windows. Also if it was the mobo why would it post and work fine until windows?
Sorry for the long thread but any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
