Tips on reducing ping?

I have my computer in my bedroom (second floor), while the family's router is in our living room, which is on the first floor of the opposite side of the house. I can't move either, since there's nowhere else to put the computer and the router isn't mine to move. Also, I can't string a cable across the whole house; that would be kind of frowned upon.

I recently built a new computer, and while I was able to get decent ping for gaming from up in my bedroom with my old one, that's not the case with this. In fact, online gaming is basically an untenable prospect. Is there anything I can do to decrease latency?

The wireless card is a Rosewill RNX-N300X, if that helps.

Would have been better if you did not use a internal pci card. These used to be faster when USB was slow but now USB is the same. The key problem you see with a internal card is the PC case is blocking the signal because the antenna are located so close.

First to test turn your pc so the back faces the router. If you still get no improvement carry the machine and place it directly next to the router to be sure it is possible get it to run fast.

In any case i would go buy a $15 USB adapter that you can put on the end of a 15ft cable if you need. Gives you more placement options in the room. There is little you can do if the card you bought will not perform. Although most brands are very similar difference in peoples houses can...

the only way to get better ping is by connecting your PC with an LAN cable directly to the Router it's much faster than the wireless connection .

try to strain a cable from window to window out side the house if it's possible .
